Rain sounds for studying & focus

Music competes with your work for attention. Rain doesn't compete with anything — which is exactly why it helps.

The problem with silence (and with music)

Perfect silence is fragile. In a quiet room, every chair scrape, notification, and hallway conversation lands on you at full weight. On the other end, music with words — or even melody you love — pulls a slice of your attention every time something interesting happens in it. Some people work well like that. Many don't, and don't realize it.

Steady rain sits in between: enough sound to blur out interruptions, with nothing in it to follow. No chorus coming up. No drop. Nothing to look forward to. That's a compliment.

What to actually put on

For work sessions, brighter and lighter beats dark and heavy. You want presence, not weather drama. Our Focus mood layers light rain with a little pink noise — pink noise fills in the low mids, so the mix masks voices (the most distracting sound there is) better than rain alone.

Two useful variations:

How loud?

Just above the level of the noises that distract you, and no more. If a colleague two desks away becomes hard to understand — not inaudible, just not interesting — you're there. With headphones, be extra conservative: hours of even moderate noise adds up. Comfortable now means too loud in an hour; start lower than feels impressive.

Make it a ritual

The most underrated part: rain as a start signal. Same mix, every session, pressed at the moment you begin. After a couple of weeks the sound itself tells your brain what happens next, the way a gym playlist does — except this one never gets old, because there's nothing in it to get old.

Pairs naturally with timed work: start the rain, work until a break, pause it, actually take the break. The silence when the rain stops is a surprisingly effective "stand up now" cue.

No install, no account: the player runs in the browser tab and keeps playing in the background. Your mix and volume are remembered on your device.
