Plain-language terms, and credit where the rain came from.

Using the site

• rainsound.app is free for personal use — at home, at work, in class, with your kids, on every device you own.
• The site is provided as is, with no guarantees of availability or fitness for any particular purpose. It's a rain player; we keep it working with care, but it carries no warranty.
• It is not a medical product. Sound masking can make it easier to fall asleep or concentrate; it does not diagnose or treat insomnia, tinnitus, anxiety or any other condition. Persistent problems deserve a professional, not a slider.
• Don't rehost the site or pass its contents off as your own. The code and texts are © plainforge; the recordings are public domain, credited below.

Partner links, and how this stays free

rainsound.app is free and carries no advertising. The player page has one clearly labelled partner link, to the sleep-mask maker Manta Sleep; if you follow it and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That is what pays the hosting bill.

• The free suggestion always comes first, and is always genuinely free to act on.
• A partner link never changes the player, the sounds, the mixes or anything else the site does.
• There is never more than one such link on a page, and we only point at something we would suggest anyway.

Following it takes you to another company's site, with its own terms, prices and availability, none of which we control or guarantee.

The sounds

The rain, thunder and ambience recordings are public-domain (CC0 / Pixabay licence) field recordings, sourced via the open-source Moodist project's sound library and served from this site (no third-party requests). CC0 requires no attribution — we credit it anyway, because it's good work:

• Rain: light rain, heavy rain, rain on a window, rain on a tent, rain on leaves
• Storm: thunder
• Ambience: campfire, wind, river, birds, city

The white, pink and brown noise are generated mathematically by the player in your browser — there is nothing to record and nothing to license.

Your mixes

Mixes you save belong to you and exist only in your browser's storage. Mix links you share encode volume levels and nothing else.
