Why rain works

Rain is steady noise without surprises. Thousands of drops landing at once form an even curtain of sound that covers the noises that wake you or break your focus — a door, a motorbike, a conversation through the wall.

Unlike pure white noise, real rain has texture. It varies just enough for your brain to read it as something natural and safe. That's why a storm can relax you when a fan can't.

Is rainsound.app free?

Yes, completely. There are no accounts, subscriptions or paid tiers. Open the page, press play, and it's raining.

Can I leave the rain playing all night?

Yes. Leave it running without limit, or set the sleep timer (15 to 90 minutes) and the rain fades out on its own without waking you.

Are the sounds real rain or generated?

The rain, thunder and ambience are real public-domain (CC0) field recordings — sources are listed on the terms & sounds page. Only the white, pink and brown noise are synthesized, because that's what noise is. We don't fake the rain.

Does it keep playing when my phone is locked?

Yes. The audio runs as media playback, so it continues with the screen off and gives you play/pause controls on the lock screen. It also plays with the iPhone silent switch on.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit, the page and sounds are stored on your device and it works without a connection. On a phone you can install it from the browser menu ("Add to Home Screen").

What data do you collect?

None. No accounts, no cookies, no trackers. Your saved mixes live only in your browser. Details in the privacy policy.
